Your first visit is spent assessing your current oral health. If you have been visiting another dentist who already has x-rays and reports, it would be helpful if you let our receptionist know. We will call the previous dentist and get your records, please let us know so we have them prior to your first appointment.
For a new adult patient exam and cleaning we need about an hour and a half. However, if you have not seen a dentist in a long while it may take longer.
• First, you will meet our team, talk about your concerns and review your medical/dental history.
• Then, if needed, one of our assistants will take a series of x-rays to check for cavities as well as bone loss and other issues. These x-rays also help with the comprehensive dental exam that includes charting of all your existing dental work.
• Dr. Bussieres will note any concerns such as cavities, jaw problems, broken teeth, gum health, a head and neck, oral cancer exam, chart any gum recession and conduct dental probing which evaluates bone loss.
• Dr. B will then go over all the information he has collected and answer any questions you may have.
Once Dr. Bussieres has completed his initial assessment you will meet Vy or Mandy, our hygienists, for your cleaning. Dr. Bussieres was also trained as a hygienist and if you prefer can continue with the cleaning. They will chart any gum recession and conduct dental probing which evaluates bone loss.
A second visit to finish the cleaning may be necessary in some cases if it has been a long time since you have had your teeth cleaned and you have a lot of tarter (calculus) built up on your teeth.
